Robb Sapp will join the cast of Broadway’s Shrek the Musical on August 18, taking over the role of rabble-rouser Pinocchio. Sapp temporarily replaces Tony Award nominee John Tartaglia, who is scheduled to return to the production on December 15 following a leave of absence.
Sapp joins a cast that includes Tony Award nominee Brian d'Arcy James as Shrek, Tony Award winner Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona, Tony Award nominee Christopher Sieber as Lord Farquaad and Tony Award nominee Daniel Breaker as Donkey. The cast also features Cameron Adams, Tessa Albertson, Rozi Baker, Haven Burton, Bobby Daye, Ryan Duncan, Sarah Jane Everman, Aymee Garcia, Maya Goldman, Justin Greer, Colleen Hawks, Lisa Ho, Chris Hoch, Marty Lawson, Carolyn Ockert-Haythe, Frankie Paparone, Denny Paschall, Eric Petersen, Keven Quillon, Heather Jane Rolff, Jennifer Simard, Rachel Stern, Dennis Stowe, David F.M. Vaughn, Ryan Worsing and Kirsten Wyatt.
Sapp previously appeared on Broadway as Boq in Wicked/ Off-Broadway credits include Happiness, Zanna Don’t!, Enter Laughing and Johnny Guitar. Regionally, he has appeared in Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas (Goodspeed), Happy Days (Paper Mill Playhouse), Fiddler on the Roof (Muny) and The 25th Annuel Putnam County Spelling Bee (Barrington Stage Company). He has been seen on the big screen in Across the Universe.
Shrek the Musical features a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire, music by Olivier Award-winner Jeanine Tesori, and is directed by Tony Award nominee Jason Moore. The show opened at the Broadway Theatre on December 14, 2008.
